Searching will be easier if you think about your search terms before you begin, so make a list of keywords, concepts or subjects that you want to search for.
Try searching for 'dogs' by clicking on Keyword. Try a second search for 'dogs' by clicking on Subject in Destiny Classic.
What do you notice? What is the difference between the two searches? You probably noticed that there were lots of resources when you searched by subject and even more when you searched by keyword.
Look at some of the titles in the list again. Maybe you just want to know more about guide dogs or a specific breed like poodles. Now try refining or narrowing your search using those new terms for both a keyword and a subject search. What do you notice now?
You may also have noticed the message asking you whether this is what you are looking for. The system is reminding you to think about how to improve your search!
There are different ways to refine or narrow your search in order to find exactly the right resources for your project. Did you notice the different symbols next to the books about guide dogs? The first title is a book, but the second is an electronic or eBook.
Perhaps you would prefer to read electronic books (eBooks) about dogs. Choose eBooks from the dropdown menu of Material Type. Remember, you must be logged in to the catalog to read eBooks.
You can also narrow or refine your search by reading level (if you happen to know it) or interest level. For example, you may be looking for eBooks about guide dogs that might be interesting for students in grades 2-4. To clear all limiters in order to start a new search, just click on Reset All.
